This is the story of a bird that fits in your hand flying halfway around the world looking for a place to nest. This is the story of a young girl from northern Africa fleeing halfway around the world looking for a place of peace. This is the story of Bird. This is the story of Leila. This is the story of a chance encounter and a long journey home.

‘A beautiful exploration of friendship, the parallel migrations of Bird and Leila, and the welcome they receive in their new home. Perfect for developing empathy and compassion’ - Library Girl and Book Boy
Here's a book that can be enjoyed on many levels. Sit with a young child to enjoy flying with Bird on her astonishing journey through the beautiful illustrations, or encourage an older one to explore the similarities of birds and human migrants - perhaps have a map by your side - possibly to discuss the risks and the reasons for migration. Then study clues to a deeper understanding through the illustrations. A book like this can lead to a walk in the countryside to look at the birds that only visit us for short periods of the year and perhaps learn or share stories with families who may not look the same as we do.
Boundless Sky is a beautiful allegory and moving story of the migrant's journey. It's all hands on deck now, getting our books and messages out there to young readers and their families to welcome those who have made this very tough, brave journey. The birds know... I ordered this book from Lantana Publishing and received it in Amsterdam in perfect condition and very quickly.
Boundless Sky is a rare thing ; both a wonderfully useful aid for teacher/parent to use as a way of opening up important discussions about friendship & compassion, the plight & needs of asylum seekers, migration & what it is that makes us "home". It also makes a beautiful gift with its moving message of love & kindness. Each word carefully crafted to knit together the migration of little Bird as he searches for a place to nest & the fleeing of Leila & her families long journey, to find a peaceful place to call home. The illustrations are so delicately & tenderly drawn. Together both the words & pictures within this book make it a triumph, leaving a strong & moving message of hope in these times. Our world must learn from Alfie as he embraces & warmly welcomes both Leila & little Bird.
This book really doesn’t disappoint. Not a single moment for beautiful storytelling has been missed. Even the end pages of this book are spectacular, showing the bird’s migration journey. The combination of Manuela’s moving illustrations and Amanda’s cleverly crafted dual narrative has created a truly masterful picture book which has a powerful message of hope, life, struggle and new beginnings.
This deceptively gentle tale of searching, and of finding a place to call home packs an emotional punch. This is really a tale for all ages about having empathy with nature and humankind. This book takes you on a journey half way round the world and back again visiting stunning landscapes and is perfect for current days where we have to stay at home and be mental travellers and connect globally. One of those children's books which speaks to adults too. This beautifully illustrated book will resonate long after reading.
