A Love Reading for Schools Book of the Month

Nobody notices the queen on the corner. Nobody, that is...except one young girl. Through her eyes, the woman who dwells in the abandoned plot is a warrior queen, with many battles fought and won. When, one day, danger comes to the street and the queen on the corner sounds the alarm, the little girl must find a way to thank her. Can she bring the community together to turn the queen’s corner into a home?

"A beautiful and thought provoking book for children - and adults - that shines a light on some of the issues surrounding homelessness. And it’s inspired by real people. Like the author says: Look out for the Queens and Kings.” – Max Newton, Head of Community Fundraising, Shelter

"Told  from the viewpoint of a small child,  Lucy Christopher's new picture book gently reminds us that everyone has a story - struggles and successes, ups and downs - and everyone needs a place to call home!" – Julia Green, children's author

"Sweet and thought-provoking" – Kirkus Reviews

"This is a tale of looking for the inherent worth of everybody, in particular homeless people, and trying one’s best to understand and support them" – Books for Keeps, 5 Stars

      New great Auntie

My order The Queen on Our Corner arrived today. It is delightful! I am a new great Aunt so I am buying children's things for the first time. Granted my niece is only 9 months, but I was charmed by the book! I love this book for all the things it shows us: kindness, being charitable, and looking beyond the obvious. The illustrations are captivatingly beautiful, imaginative and sensitive, and their use of colour is refreshingly different.

I am so deeply moved by this book -what an inspiring message! I’m nearly 20 and this book had my eyes all welled up. Extremely heartfelt, I recommend to anyone who enjoys stories which embody kindness and inclusivity.
